Quilts of Valor Presentation -- 11/11/2023

On Saturday, November 11th, six veterans from various branches of service were presented with patriotic quilts made by guild members. Rose Rhoades and her husband from QOV organization and Annie Houston, the guild member who spearheaded this project, did a wonderful job with the ceremony to honor these veterans.  More photos of the individual presentations below.

Reflections: AIDS Memorial Quilt                     A Conversation and Exhibition

Mizell Senior Center
480 S. Sunrise Way
Palm Springs

Mizell’s Center’s 3rd Wednesday Speaker Series held an event to reflect upon the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Conceived in November 1985, by AIDS activist Cleve Jones, the Quilt was founded to create a memorial to celebrate the lives of people who died from AIDS-related causes.

The panelist reflected on the history of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and explored the origins and evolution of the Quilt. The Quilt serves as a memorial to lives lost and simultaneously remains a resounding symbol of LGBT activism, perseverance and quest for social justice.

Coachella Valley Quilt Guild is a proud Community Partner for this event, and several guild members and their friends contributed panels for a 12' x 12' quilt.
